Biographical, Educational, and Family Information

Judge Hassell grew up in Greensboro as the oldest of four children of Dr. and Mrs. Charles M. Hassell. After attending elementary and junior high school in the Greensboro City School system, he attended Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1979.

Judge Hassell returned to his home state to attend the University of North Carolina, where he was a Dean's List student and received a B.A. in Political Science and Economics in 1983; he subsequently was admitted to the UNC School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1986. He returned to Guilford County at that time and was admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of North Carolina.

Judge Hassell is married to Eloise McCain Hassell, an attorney, mediator, and award-winning Senior Lecturer at UNCG's Bryan School of Business and Economics. They are the proud parents of Molly (17) and Bayly (15).

The Hassells are active members of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, where Robby and Eloise are both elders, where Molly and Bayly are both active in the youth ministry of the church, and where all four participate in choral music activities and church school teaching programs.
